Red Wine

Anthony de Jäger ~ Winemaker

The ‘legend’ goes that some errant members of Fairview’s long-established goatherd once escaped from their paddock into the Fairview vineyards after Charles Back’s young son Jason accidentally left the gate open. The little group happily roamed among the vineyards, showing rare discernment by selecting some of the ripest berries from the vines – berries that were then used in the making of Goats Do Roam wine.

  • Shiraz 60%
  • Grenache 14%
  • Mourvedre  11%
  • Petite Sirah 11%
  • Carignan 2%
  • Cinsaut 2%

The Shiraz was harvested from trellised vineyards in Paarl and Stellenbosch. The Cinsaut is from bush vines in Paarl. The Mourvèdre is primarily from dryland bush vines in the Swartland and the Piekenierskloof with a small percentage from vineyards in Stellenbosch. The juicy Grenache noir is from Paarl and Darling. The Petite Sirah, also known as Durif, is from decomposed granite soils grown in our trellised Paarl vineyards. All the grapes are 100% Fairtrade

Decent drinking all year round.

Bright ruby in the glass. Plums and red berry with cinnamon spice aromas. Medium bodied with silky juicy tannin and subtle vanilla on the palate.
