100% Sauvignon Blanc
In 1972, winery founder David Stare chose the term Fumé Blanc to describe his flagship white wine – a dry Sauvignon Blanc crafted in the Loire Valley style. More than 40 years later, our Fume Blanc still adheres to Dave’s winemaking vision. Grapes were harvested from both the Dry Creek and Russian River Valley on August 12 to September 12, 2014. Each lot was fermented separately in 100% stainless steel tanks and without the use of oak aging. This method allows us to preserve the vibrant citrus and steely mineral nuances that have come to define this wine.
At first swirl, this beautiful wine emanates the classic Dry Creek Vineyard “house” style of Sauvignon Blanc with crisp lemon-lime citrus characters and a zesty mineral edge. Several more turns of the glass reveal tart green apple, fresh grass and a steely quality that harkens to a good Sancerre. On the palate, the wine dances with wonderful bright fresh fruit notes and juicy acidity. The wine is bone dry but not overly so – it has a lovely intensity that finishes clean and pure. A wonderful wine that is simply delicious!
